If you've been following our journey of taking a tiny business and trying to make it less tiny, you'll know that I offered a job to somebody a few weeks ago, and that they accepted the offer!
Now, finally, I'm delighted to share with you the news that Dan Akrigg is to be our first permanent member of staff. Those of you who've been paying attention will know he's been helping out on a casual basis for a while now, and in fact it was after he helped at the Marple Food Festival last year that we first seriously discussed him coming on board. Picture the scene, we'd just sold 400 pies in about 5 hours, which for us was an enormous number, and we were sat in a pub garden trying to catch our breath when we started talking about the possibilities for the business. I wasn't looking to grow particularly, I was comfortable and happy and I wasn't interested in taking a risk - been there, done that, got the bankruptcy tshirt - but in front of me sat a man who was significantly more talented than me, well trained, successful, eager, driven, entrepreneurially minded, full of enthusiasm and seemingly keen to join me. Sometimes you simply can't ignore what's staring you in the face!

We talked a lot more over the next few weeks as we fleshed out what a job could look like, discussed in the cold light of day (rather than in the afterglow of a successful days trading), how realistic the opportunities in front of us actually were, and laid bare the risks for us both. And still he wanted to be involved in the journey!
So here we are - Dan starts in June or July, initially part time with a vision for it to become full time when the time is right. Job title? There are a few possibilities but Head of Delicious is the front runner for now! It's all very exciting.
A round up of other news. No pie press yet, a couple more sports clubs look close to coming on board, the Chicken Tikka Masala is now available on our site and selling well, and I'm making a Cornish Pasty trial later this week!
Thanks for reading - do come back.
Dan
