#9 One Small Step for Man….

….one significant leap for The Cheshire Food Co. If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know we’ve been working hard to grow this tiny business into something less tiny, and this week we took a big step forward on that journey. After plenty of to-ing and fro-ing over the last month I’m delighted to share with you that we’ve been appointed as the sole supplier of event catering at Marple Golf Club.

It’s a really important appointment for us, and affirmation that what we’re doing is something people want. Here’s how it came about. The club’s current Head Steward is leaving the role at the beginning of August, when his replacement, Rachel, takes over the reigns. I’ve known Rachel for probably 15 years since employing her in her first front of house role in my previous business, Toast Deli. She’s also helped out on various catering jobs for me in the last few years and has seen the work that Dan and I do first hand. She’s a very talented and hard working front of house manager, but what she isn’t is a chef, so she called me and asked if I’d like to be involved. Errrrr, yes please! Working out the detail of our involvement took some time because of our existing work and family commitments, but we got there in the end!

To give you an idea of the significance we currently cater 2 or 3 events a month on top of our frozen meals business. The Golf Club have 2 or 3 events a week on average. It means that Dan, who joined permanently at the start of July already has a new contract for more than double the hours he’d started with (which he’s VERY happy about), and it means we have a venue we can call home when we get catering enquiries. And that’s before we get to the efficiencies we’ll be able realise from the increased throughput in the kitchen. It's all very, very good news. I might even dust off the old golf clubs again just to get a proper feel for the place 🤣
